De Blasio Orders Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff In Honor Of Dallas Shooting Victims

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on all New York City buildings following the deadly sniper attacks in Dallas that left five police officers dead and another seven wounded.

He said flags will be flown at half-staff until further notice "as a mark of respect for the victims of the deadly violence that occurred in Dallas."

On Twitter, the mayor said he was "Outraged and saddened by the attack on officers in Dallas."

"Our hearts break for their families - and our nation," he said.

Authorities said snipers opened fire on police officers during a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas Thursday night over the recent fatal shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Flags in New York City had already been flying at half-staff in honor of the late Dr. Roscoe Brown, a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen who died at the age of 94 over the weekend.
