NYC Ferry Serves Its One-Millionth Rider

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced NYC Ferry carried its one-millionth passenger Wednesday morning.
The system launched May 1.

Original projections estimated the millionth rider wouldn't show up until Aug. 23.
"You know the classic phrase 'If you build it they will come?' Well, people are coming, people are choosing the ferry," de Blasio said.
To celebrate, the ferry system is offering half-price beverages to riders.
The system provides service on the East River between Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
De Blasio announced a fourth ferry line to Astoria, Long Island City and Roosevelt Island will begin on Aug. 29.
"This is all about creating more access around the city, giving people opportunity regardless of zip code," de Blasio said.
The millionth rider has not yet been identified.
