Rockland County Wrestling Coach Accused Of Sex Abuse

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A volunteer wrestling coach is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy. Now, police in three counties want to know if there are other victims.

Marcus Stroud, 18, initially met his victim through a wrestling program, Clarkstown police said. Starting in December, he used social media outlets like Snapchat to lure the boy into sexual acts, according to police.

Parents are now being asked to find out if their children had any suspicious alone time with the man.

"That really behooves you as a parent to stay on top of what kinds of social media activity your child is engaging in. Please keep oversight of it, always have these conversations with your children, but there are people out there looking to do harm to you," Clarkstown Policer Officer Peter Walker said, CBS2's Dave Carlin reports.

Stroud had been involved in wrestling programs in Rockland, Westchester and Bergen Counties as a volunteer coach, police said.

Police say there are no signs of a prior criminal record and perhaps nothing to red flag Stroud before he got hired to coach kids.

"It's just very scary, you just don't know who you can trust nowadays," Joan Schmarge, a Suffern resident, told CBS2.

Stroud, of Nyack, faces charges of criminal sexual acts, sex abuse, sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child. He's being held on $100,000 bail and is due back in court Friday morning.
