NY Lawyer, Timothy Griffin, Charged With Stealing $1M From Clients

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A New York real estate lawyer has been arrested on charges he stole more than $1 million from clients' escrow accounts and used it on personal expenses including jewelry, cars and a country club membership.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the arrest of Timothy Griffin on Thursday.

Griffin was arraigned in New Rochelle on seven counts of felony grand larceny.

He was charged earlier with stealing nearly $2 million from the United Hebrew Cemetery on Staten Island between 2012 and January 2014.

Schneiderman's investigators believe Griffin stole from the cemetery to reimburse the money he had been stealing from his clients.

A woman who answered the phone at Griffin's Bronxville office said she could not comment.

Griffiin, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
