Not Your Average Summer, But New Yorkers Aren't Complaining
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- In a summer of people dumping buckets of ice water over their head, New York City has endured just four days of 90-degree weather.
By this time last summer, the city had been through 16, according to The New York Times.
But as WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported, temperatures are only slightly below the August average.
Still, Michael-- who works outside at John F. Kennedy International Airport-- says it's a memorable stretch.
"Last year I was working outside in a ditch and I was sweating at 110 in the sun. This year it feels like the spring and the fall and it's beautiful," he said.
"The heat comes from the concrete, building. The city heat is worse than any heat I've ever experienced," Charlie said, who delivers newspapers.
ConEd reports demand in July was down by 8 percent as compared to a year earlier. Attendance by city pools has been by 7 percent this summer as well.
