North Hempstead Board Member Reportedly Not In Favor Of Pay Raises For City Employees

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The town of North Hempstead approved pay raises for employees this past week, but some are not happy about the increases.

In a vote of 6 to 1, $145,000 in pay raises were approved by the board.

The 3 percent raises were handed out to 62 employees, including senior staff and secretaries.

But Newsday reports town board member Dina De Giorgio said the money would be better spent on infrastructure improvements and streamlining the building department, which has been criticized for handling applications at a snail's pace.

But Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth tells WCBS 880's Sophia Hall the raises were already budgeted for.

"I believe in doing everything in an open and transparent way, this is no different," Bosworth said. "This is a budget that was presented in November that got unanimous approval."
