Messy Commute As Tri-State Area Cleans Up From Storm

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Tri-State Area is cleaning up and digging out after another nor'easter.

Metro-North, Long Island Rail Road and NJ TRANSIT all ran normal service Thursday, but said weather-related delays were possible. They also asked riders to allow for extra travel time.

Some LIRR passengers in Mineola saw dozens of delays early Thursday morning.

"The delay isn't going to do me well today," said rider Dena Gassner. "I have to be at NYU, so I'm debating whether I should take some kind of car service instead of wait for the train."

"Hope for the best, get here early," another passenger told CBS2's Marc Liverman. "I'm ready for warm weather."

"I'm going to plan accordingly," another commuter said. "I'll probably have to leave work early to budget for time. I'm not very confident that they're going to have this resolved.

In Brooklyn, MTA crews were out early clearing platforms to make it safer for riders.

Area airports were also recovering Thursday after hundreds of flights were canceled Wednesday.

More than 90 flights were canceled at Kennedy Airport Thursday while Newark had more than 130 flight cancellations.

LaGuardia said nearly 90 percent of its flights Thursday were scheduled to operate, but said weather conditions have caused some flight disruptions.

Travelers are urged to contact their airlines before heading to the airport.
