No Custody Decision Yet On Lodi, N.J. Boys Whose Mother Was Slain

LODI, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities Monday had yet to determine who will get custody of two Lodi, New Jersey boys whose father allegedly killed their mother and kidnapped them.

Nicholas Jordan, 8, and Anthony Jordan, 7, were placed in protective custody in South Carolina after their 47-year-old father, John Jordan, was arrested early Saturday near a relative's home in Greenville.

Authorities said Jordan drove there with his sons' after he fatally stabbed his estranged wife, 39-year-old Tracey Jordan, in her Lodi apartment on Friday.

Officials said child welfare authorities in both states must investigate the boys' maternal and paternal relatives before determining where the children will be placed. It was not known when that decision will be made.

John Jordan has been charged with one count of murder, and one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He allegedly took the boys from school, and police issued an AMBER alert Friday night to find them.

In an effort to flee the area following the homicide, Jordan traveled south in Tracey's 2012 Honda Accord, authorities said. He was found with the assistance of the FBI surveillance was established at locations in South Carolina and California were relatives of Jordan were living, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said.

Jordan as of Monday remained in custody in South Carolina awaiting extradition proceedings.
