NJ Turnpike eastern spur hit with delays after bus fire in Secaucus

NJ Transit bus goes up in flames on NJ Turnpike

A bus fire on the NJ Turnpike caused heavy delays Thursday morning for drivers on the eastern spur in Secaucus. 

NJ Transit said a bus on the 113 line had a tire blow out while traveling from Plainfield to Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. 

Officials said the driver and 49 passengers were able to safely evacuate, and no injuries were reported. 

When Chopper 2 arrived over the scene around 6 a.m., the bus was engulfed in flames.

The fire has since been put out, but delays continued for the morning commute. 

Northbound lanes were closed on the eastern spur, and traffic was backed up to at least Newark. One southbound lane was also briefly shut down but since reopened. 

Another problem for New Jersey commuters, PATH service was suspended on the Hoboken to World Trade Center and Hoboken to 33rd Street lines due to a broken rail.
