NJ Transit rail delays expected to continue Friday due to repairs to Portal Bridge signal system

NJ Transit train delays continue Friday

NEW YORK -- NJ Transit rail delays that started Thursday will continue Friday.

NJ Transit officials say riders in and out of Penn Station in New York can expect cancelations and delays as they deal with extensive repairs to the signal system at the Amtrak Portal Bridge in Kearny.

A signal problem disrupted service to and from Manhattan late Thursday morning.

NJ Transit said repairs are being made Thursday night and Friday.

Some passengers waited hours before boarding a train at New York Penn Station.

"Well, it's canceled as far as I know right now. I'm going to have to wait and see what else happens," said Steve Robinson.

"They canceled the 12:29. I'm going to take 1:29, that's two hours late," said Jameel Maksad.

Rail tickets and passes will be cross-honored by NJ Transit buses and PATH trains.

Officials did not say when regular service will be restored or exactly what caused the signal issue.
