Small Fire, Power Snag NJ TRANSIT, Amtrak At Penn Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A small fire and power outage in one of the Hudson River tunnels shut down NJ TRANSIT service into and out of New York City late Friday, and also affected Amtrak.

The FDNY said there was a small device or light in one of the tunnels that was smoking, CBS2 reported. The fire turned out to be in a signal box.

NJ TRANSIT reported that service was suspended into and out of New York City due to a power outage in a Hudson River tunnel.

Amtrak also lost power and service was affected, CBS2 reported.

There were no injuries connected to the mechanical fire.

Service was restored by just before 10 p.m., but delays of about 45 minutes persisted.
