8 Hurt After NJ TRANSIT Bus, 3 Tractor-Trailers Collide Near Linden

LINDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Eight people were hurt Wednesday morning when a NJ TRANSIT bus loaded with passengers and three tractor-trailers collided during the morning rush, New Jersey State Police said.

It happened around 7:48 a.m. on the northbound side of the NJ Turnpike near mile marker 97 in Linden. NJ TRANSIT said 61 passengers were on board the bus from Lakewood, which was heading to Lincoln Harbor.

A smashed window could be seen on the side of the bus, CBS2's Christine Sloan reported.

State police said one person who was extricated from the bus was seriously hurt. All eight of the victims have been taken to the hospital.

The accident caused traffic tie-ups on the northbound side of the turnpike. Police said three lanes are closed and drivers should expect delays. Click here to check current traffic conditions.
