Lightning Strikes 2 NJ State Police Cruisers With Troopers Inside

MIDDLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two New Jersey state troopers avoided serious injury Tuesday when lightning struck their cruisers in Cape May County, police said.

The troopers were sitting in separate vehicles around 2:15 p.m. when lightning struck at a construction site on the Garden State Parkway in Middle Township, police said.

Neither trooper was seriously hurt. One was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Pomona for observation.

"He seems to be alright and being evaluated at hosp," a tweet from state police said.

The other trooper did not require medical attention, police said.
