Police: NJ Man Faces Drug Charges After Giving Officers Wallet Containing Marijuana

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man faces drug charges after handing police officers who asked for his identification a wallet containing marijuana.

It happened around 8 p.m. on Christmas Day when officers were called to an alleyway on Main Street for a report of an unresponsive, unconscious man, Hackettstown Police said.

Police determined the man, identified as 34-year-old Santos Vasques-Hernandez of Hackettstown, was breathing and seemed to be intoxicated, police said.

Vasques-Hernandez then became "combative'' and began swinging his fists at officers who asked for identification, police said.

Vasques-Hernandez handed his wallet to officers who smelled marijuana, then found a baggy of the drug in the wallet, police said.

He faces drug possession and disorderly conduct charges after the  incident.

He was released pending a court appearance.
