Marine Missing In Action Since 1969 Identified As Bergen County Man

BOGOTA, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey Marine who has been missing in action since 1969 has been identified.

Marine Corps Army Reserve First Lt. William Ryan was from Bogota in Bergen County.

Ryan's plane was shot down over Laos during the Vietnam War.

The body of the radar intercept officer was never found, but investigators repeatedly visited the crash site.

The U.S. Department of Defense said it has now identified Ryan through DNA.
