NJ Man Dubbed 'SI King' Gathers Autographs From Sports Illustrated Cover Stars

POMPTON PLAINS, N.J.(CBSNewYork) -- From Michael Jordan to Ronald Reagan, since 1982 Scott Smith, who is called the SI King, has been finding the people who graced the cover of Sports Illustrated and getting them to autograph the issue.

"Tiger Woods, Gretzky, Mickey Mantle," he told 1010 WINS Rebecca Granet.

His quest has taken him from Canada to the Bahamas.

He said his favorite person to meet was Muhammad Ali.

"He just took his time and he signed about 55 magazines for me," Smith said.

Smith said Kate Upton wasn't as nice.

"She doesn't sign autographs. She's very difficult, and I just kind of left shrugging my shoulders," he said.

Over the years Smith said he has had close to 30,000 magazines signed and plans to try again to add Upton to the list.
