Police: Alleged Car Burglar Told Woman He Was 'Sent By God'

WYCKOFF, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man found reclining in a woman's car and wearing her slippers told her that he was sent by God, authorities said.

Wyckoff Township police arrested Zakiy Muhammad, 20, of Paterson, on Tuesday night, WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported. He's charged with burglary, and it wasn't known if he has retained an attorney.

The 68-year-old victim had just returned to the Wyckoff YMCA from a bus trip when she found Muhammmad lying in her car with the seat reclined, police said.

The bus driver and others overheard the woman yelling at Muhammad to get out of her car, police Chief Benjamin Fox said. The bus driver then coaxed the suspect to get into his bus and locked him in until cops came, Fox said.

Muhammad had kicked off his shoes in the car and was wearing a pair of slippers the woman had recently purchased, police said.
