Boy, 8, Nearly Drowns In Creek In Palisades Park, New Jersey

PALISADES PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An 8-year-old boy is in stable condition after nearly drowning in Palisades Park, New Jersey on Friday evening.

Police said the boy wandered away from his family shortly before 5 p.m.

Project Lifesaver, a program that uses tracking technology to help families locate their loved ones, sent out an alert, and someone in a nearby structure spotted the boy in Overpeck Creek, police said.

Officers from the Bergen County Sheriff's Department and Palisades Park Police recovered the boy from the water and revived him on the scene.

He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey in stable condition.
