Boy Walking Along Route 27 In New Jersey Killed After Being Hit By Trash Can

HIGHLAND PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A little boy walking along a busy road in New Jersey was killed Saturday when he was hit by a trash can.

It happened on Route 27 near Columbia Street in Highland Park.

The boy had been walking along the shoulder of the road with his mother when a car came out of a strip mall and hit a concrete container that was holding the trash can.

"We heard a big bang and we looked through the window and we saw a car across the street by a tree," witness Arthur Rausch said. "And four people got out and they were dizzy and whatever."

It appears the boy was Jewish and was walking with his mother because of the Sabbath, TV 10/55 reported.
