NJ Apartment Complex Burns Hours Before Christmas Eve

HIGHLAND PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A fire broke out Monday afternoon in a vacant apartment in Middlesex County, causing extensive damage throughout the complex and leaving several families without homes.

Multiple firefighting units from neighboring towns were called to 100 Cedar Lane in Highland Park after the initial report of a blaze came around 4 p.m.

Firefighters say the fire started in a Cedar Lane apartment complex unit where no one was home, allowing the flames to spread before anyone called 911.

There were no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
