3 Newtown High School Students Accused Of Selling Nude Images Of Classmates

NEWTOWN, CONN. (CBSNewYork) -- Three Newtown High School students are facing felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly selling sexually explicit photos and videos of classmates.

As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported, 20 other students -- both boys and girls -- allegedly shared the images on their phones.

Newtown High School principal Laurie Rodriguez is seizing the moment to educate students about the dangers of sexting.

"We're using this as a teachable moment. We made sure that we put it on our agenda for our workshops of wellness, which we held very early in December this year," she said.

The wellness workshops focus on teaching students about the perils of drugs, alcohol, and the consequences of hitting send.

There will be no charges against the 20 students who shared the images. They will face a juvenile review board and likely receive community service, Adams reported.
