Officials: Taxi Driver Fatally Shot In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Newark are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a livery cab driver Friday night.

Authorities said 45-year-old Rodrigo Berru was shot and killed around 9:45 p.m. in the 300 Block of Frelinghuysen Avenue.

When they arrived on the scene Berru, who works for Classic Taxi, was unconscious and unresponsive, officials said. He was pronounced dead at 9:47 p.m.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and so far no arrests have been made.

Berru's death is the 59th homicide in Newark this year and the sixth killing in the city since Wednesday, 1010 WINS reported.
