Newark Police Investigate 2 Unrelated Fatal Shootings

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two people are dead following two separate and apparently unrelated shootings in Newark on Saturday.

According to officials, the first shooting took place at around 3:30 p.m. on 3rd Avenue in the North Ward.  Police responding to a call discovered 41-year-old Maria Cruz of Rockaway, N.Y., with a gunshot wound.

Cruz was rushed to University Hospital, where she succumb to her injuries at 4:26 a.m. Sunday.

At approximately 11 p.m. Saturday, Newark police personnel responded to 41-45 Mountainview Ave. in the West Ward. Upon arrival, they found 33-year-old Raheem Hughee, of East Orange, dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police would not comment on any apparent motives or suspects.

The Essex County Sheriff's Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
