All Clear Given After Suspicious Bag Found At Newark Liberty Airport

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An investigation into an unattended bag caused some tense moments at Newark Liberty International Airport, but officials say there were no issues found with the item.

Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said the bag was discovered around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, on the foot rest of a wheelchair in Terminal C.

A police dog was brought to the scene and deemed the package as suspicious. The Essex County bomb squad was notified and responded to the scene, and the bag was cleared a short time later.

People in the terminal were allowed to remain there, but people trying to enter the facility had to wait until the site was cleared.

Travelers and some emergency responders were seen standing around just outside the terminal's doors during the investigation, WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported.
