2 Charged After Man Is Shot Dead In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects were charged Friday in a shooting that left a man dead in the early-morning hours in Newark.

Angelo P. Lorenzi, 33, of Newark, was shot in the 500 block of South Orange Avenue in Newark around 4:47 a.m., according to the Essex County Prosecutor's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene, 20 minutes later, prosecutors said.

Two people were arrested at the scene and were later charged in the shooting, police said.

Rayquan Tubbs, 19, of Irvington was arrested and charged with murder and three weapons offenses, prosecutors said. His brother, Khalil Thomas, 21, of Newark was also arrested and was been charged with two weapons offenses, prosecutors said.

Both men were being held on bail in the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said an encounter between the victim and the suspects led to the fatal shooting, but did not elaborate.
