Man Charged With Making False Bomb Threat That Evacuated Newark City Hall

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Newark arrested a man Wednesday after he allegedly made a false bomb threat at City Hall there.

Montral Sawyer, 47, of Newark was charged with causing a false public alarm, according to Newark police.

Police said Sawyer approached officers around 9 a.m., saying he had placed a bomb inside City Hall and refusing to say where it was located.

Members of the Newark police Emergency Response Team were called in, while Sawyer was arrested, police said.

The Newark City Hall was evacuated while the Essex County Sheriff K9/Bomb Unit and the Emergency Response Team searched the building and found no bomb, police said.
