Newark Woman Helps Cops Chase Down Burglary Suspect

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A Newark woman returning to her apartment Thanksgiving night found a burglar inside and chased him out and down the street while dialing 911, police said.

The break-in happened around 7:15 p.m. at 317 Littleton Ave. in the University Heights section, police said.

The victim helped lead police to the suspect, Larry Braxton, 31, of Newark, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported. He has been charged with burglary, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest by flight.

One neighbor, who didn't want to give her name, said police were almost immediately at the scene and their chase was brief. One of the officers is being treated at University Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the arrest.

The only visible sign of the burglary Friday were window screens on the lawn of the apartment.
