New York Senate Committees To Review MTA's Finances

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will face finance questions from state lawmakers on Monday.

The transit agency is expected to go before two Senate committees in Albany. MTA Chairman Tom Prendergast is expected to address lawmakers at the hearing.

A main focus of the hearing will be the MTA's ambitious $32 billion, five-year plan to upgrade equipment and services.

Senators are hoping to find ways to prevent an expected deficit at the agency without fare increases or service reductions.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed setting aside $750 million for new MTA subways and buses as part of his state budget proposal for next year.
