Mets' Tweet About Runs Backfires As Angry Fans Vent Frustration
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Mets have arguably the best pitching staff in the major leagues, but they've struggled to score runs all season.
With the club in the thick of a pennant race, the fan base is beyond frustrated with New York's offense and the failure to drive in runners in scoring position.
So you can only imagine what the responses were like when the Mets sent out the following tweet on Tuesday morning:
Tuesdays > Mondays. Why? If 125 runs are scored tonight you WIN! Sign up now: http://t.co/hGFsqU7C7g #MLBRunsOnDD pic.twitter.com/1g5Loc8gnL

Predictably, fans used this as a forum to vent and express their anger.
@Mets You'll be lucky to score 1 the way you guys are hitting.

@Mets Instead of doing anything about it, you mock. No respect for your fan base.

@Mets runs?! You tweet about runs!? Well, until @MetsGM gets a bat you have to rely on pitchers to hit. Good thing @JdeGrom19 hits tonight!

@Mets Sure the Mets will do their part to make sure we don't win.

@Mets you continue to mock yourselves

Ouch.
In Monday night's loss to the first-place Nationals, the starting lineup featured six hitters with averages worse than .250. Three hitters -- not including starting pitcher Matt Harvey -- were below .200. The highest average, belonging to Daniel Murphy, was .267.
The Mets' two runs on the night were driven in by Harvey.
The Amazin's rank second-to-last in runs (319) in the majors -- and last in the National League -- and own the worst batting average in baseball (.234).
