New York Group Tries To Help Irish Baseball Score Big

VALHALLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- While Americans celebrate Irish culture Tuesday, there is a growing movement on the Emerald Isle to spread America's pastime, baseball.

"There are a lot of other options for sports in Ireland, but baseball's growing," John Fitzgerald, who heads the Baseball United Foundation, told WCBS 880's Sean Adams. "It's growing pretty quickly, actually."

Fitzgerald's Westchester County-based group helps kids and adults in Ireland play baseball by sending over donations and expertise.

"We provide equipment and coaching and help with field maintenance," Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald said stores in the soccer-loving country generally don't sell bats and gloves.
