Study: New York City Is Fourth Worst For Rush Hour Traffic In U.S.
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new study is backing up what many motorists in and around New York City are complaining about: traffic is getting worse.
A study conducted by Texas A&M finds New York is the fourth worst region for rush hour traffic in the entire country, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
Tim Lomax is one of the researchers.
"The average auto commuter had a total of 74 hours of delay," each year said Lomax. That's almost two work weeks a year.
Traffic consultant Sam Schwartz, also known as Gridlock Sam, said there's a real cost.
"It takes a toll in dollars, in business that's lost and business opportunities lost, time with your family that is lost, because you're stuck in traffic," said Schwartz.
Schwartz said he believes congestion pricing would help.
The three cities that beat out New York City in the study are Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco.
