NYC Hospitals Welcome First Babies Of 2020
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With the first day of the new year comes the competition for the city's first baby of 2020.
This year, we have two bundles of joy sharing the title, CBS2's Cindy Hsu reported Wednesday.
At the stroke of midnight, two baby boys were born in the city -- Aidan Zobnin and Anthony Saraceno Jr.
Aidan was born at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island at 7 pounds, 13 ounces to Jennet and Artyom Zobnin.
"He's miracle, miracle baby for me, yeah," mother Janet Zobnin said.
Dad said he just broke down in tears.
"I was crying. That's all I did. I was crying like a baby, you know," Artyom Zobnin said.
Big sister Arianna, who's about to turn 2, had been practicing to say hi to her baby brother.
The hospital gave the family a big New Year's baby basket, complete with sparkling cider.
Meanwhile, at Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island., Anthony Saraceno Jr. was born at 7 pounds, 9 ounces.
His parents were watching New Year's Eve celebrations on TV when Anthony came into the world at midnight.
"Literally as the countdown's happening on the TV, the countdown's happening in the room and we kept looking at each other. This is happening. You know you just can't believe it," mother Michelle Saraceno said.
He was born three weeks early, so he was in the NICU on Wednesday but doing well.
"I think he wanted to make a grand entrance and he wanted to have a really special birthday," Michelle Saraceno said.
The Saracenos love to go big. Anthony proposed to Michelle in Central Park, with a flash mob, so Anthony Jr. being one of the city's first New Year's babies fits in perfectly.
"Following in my footsteps already. We don't do anything small, no," Anthony Saraceno said with a laugh.
And they're ready for Anthony to love hometown teams, just like his parents -- Rangers, Jets and Mets.
