Power outages in New Rochelle, N.Y. after tree section falls, crushes van

Tree crushes van, causes power outage in New Rochelle, N.Y.

About 150 homes and businesses lost power when part of a tree fell onto electrical lines and crushed a van in New Rochelle, New York.

Con Edison's outage map showed power was knocked in the area of Beaufort Place on Friday afternoon.

Tree branches snapped at 79 Beaufort Place and took down two overhead poles, Con Ed said.

Video from the scene showed part of the tree also crashed onto a work van.

At least two cars were towed from the area to give repair workers space to free the van and handle the downed power lines.

"I just stepped outside to get something from my car. I came back and realized I had no power, and I had power right before. I didn't even hear anything," Eugene Minaya, a resident, said. "There's a neighborhood chat and I think several people had lost power. So I realized it wasn't just me."

Con Ed's outage map showed about a dozen customers remained without electricity at 6 p.m. Power was estimated to be fully restored by 11 p.m.

It's unclear what caused the branches to snap.
