Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation Of New Rochelle High School

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --  A gas leak at New Rochelle High School prompted an evacuation Wednesday morning.

Con Edison confirmed there was a gas leak at the school and are working with the fire depertment to determine a cause.

Students were escorted outside onto the football field.

"At approx 10a.m., a strong gas odor was reported in one wing of the high school. All students and staff in that wing were removed from building. The New Rochelle fire department responded and all students and staff are safe. The fire dept is currently investigating source of the smell," the school said in a statement.

Students were eventually let back into the school.
