New Jersey Substitute Teacher Indicted On Charges Of Sex With Girl, 16

FREEHOLD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A former New Jersey substitute teacher was indicted Friday on charges that he had sex multiple times with a 16-year-old girl at his home.

Darnell Lewis, 37, of Red Bank, was indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury Friday on three counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of the child, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's office.

He was being held at the Monmouth County Jail as of Friday on $200,000 bail.

Lewis had been a substitute teacher, hall monitor, and assistant coach at Red Bank Regional High School, prosecutors said.

He was accused of having intercourse with the girl on at least three occasions between Dec. 31, 2013 and April of this year, prosecutors said.

If convicted, Lewis faces a sentence of as many as 30 years in prison.
