New Jersey Man Charged With 3rd DWI In Less Than A Week

KEANSBURG, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Monmouth County has been charged with drunken driving for the third time in less than a week.

Keansburg police told the Asbury Park Press that 46-year-old borough resident Jean Attis was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly led officers on a chase that briefly went through a neighboring town. The pursuit ended when he crashed into a fire hydrant in Keansburg.

Officers pursued Attis because they knew his license had been revoked. They also knew he had been arrested twice in a 17-hour period earlier in the week on drunken driving charges.

Besides the DWI count, Attis also faces charges of eluding and numerous motor vehicle citations. He was being held on $20,000 cash bail.

It was not known Sunday if Attis had retained a lawyer.
