SPCA: N.J. Couple Finds Their Dog At Shelter, 1 1/2 Years After He Was Lost

EATONTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey family was in for the surprise of their lives when they tried to adopt a dog, an animal welfare agency said Friday.

It turned out that the first dog Charles and Elicia James saw was their very own dog that had disappeared during Superstorm Sandy, the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

The Jameses had been looking for their dog, Reckless, for more than a year and a half. But they ultimately gave up hope and decided to adopt another dog, the SPCA said.

They headed instead to the Monmouth County SPCA for a new one. But a dog they found that the shelter had named Lucas was actually their Reckless, the SPCA said.

Volunteers said Reckless arrived at the SPCA in November, and was always looking for his family.
