New Jersey 9/11 Victims Remembered At Empty Sky Memorial

JERSEY CITY (CBSNewYork) -- The 749 New Jersey residents killed on 9/11 were remembered Sunday during a ceremony at the Empty Sky Memorial in Liberty State Park.

As WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported, the crowd was smaller than it has been in previous years. But for Pamela Schiele, it was important to be there and trace her fingers over her sister's name.

"I don't forget," she said. "Thank God for my parents, and thank God they thank me every day because I really picked up the pieces and just put everything together again. And it's just hard."

Paul Schertzer said some people prefer to go to the 9/11 memorial in Manhattan. For others, the anniversary has become a private affair.

The Edison, New Jersey, resident said he remembers his son, Scott, in his own way.

"Before I go to sleep, I talk to him, and that brings me a little closer to him," Schertzer said.
