New 'E-Tags' Could Mean Less Time On Line At The Airport

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A new way to check bags could reduce the amount of time that you spend on line at the airport.

Airlines are testing a digital system that allows passengers to tag luggage before getting to the airport, CBS 2 reported.

The 'E-Tag' is locked to the bag's handle and a tracking device is placed inside of the luggage.

Once at the airport, passengers would skip check in and go straight to baggage drop-off. An app would trace the bag if it got lost.

Airlines hope to use the digital tags by the end of the year. There is no word on how much they will cost.
