Nets' Williams Named Eastern Conference Player Of The Week

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's early, but it appears Deron Williams is a different player than a season ago.

The veteran point guard has done basically everything right of late and on Monday was rewarded for it, as he was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

It marked the fourth time Williams has won an NBA Player of the Week award and is his first since joining Brooklyn during the 2010-11 season.

Williams helped the Nets (4-2) to three wins in four games last week, averaging 20.8 points, 7.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 37.3 minutes. He also shot 56.9 percent from the field, including 42.9 percent from 3-point range, and 82.6 percent from the free-throw line.

He closed the week with a flourish, shooting 10-of-15 and scoring 29 points in a 110-99 rout of the Knicks on Friday, followed by an 18-point, seven-assist effort in a 104-96 victory over Orlando on Sunday.

Williams' fast start comes in stark contrast to his 2013-14 season in which he posted his lowest scoring average and assist-per-game average since his rookie season with the Utah Jazz in 2005-06.

The Nets travel to Phoenix on Wednesday for the first of a three-game road trip that will also take them to Golden State and Portland before they return home for a game against the Miami Heat on Nov. 17.
