Neighborhood-Specific Maps Coming To NYC Subway Stations
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The MTA announced Tuesday it has joined forces with the New York City Department of Transportation to install new neighborhood-specific maps in all city subway stations.
MTA Spokesman Kevin Ortiz told 1010 WINS the first five maps will appear in Brooklyn stations but they hope to include all MTA stops by the end of the year.
"It's basically information related to that particular neighborhood: landmarks, places of interest, restaurants," Ortiz said.
Neighborhood maps were previously installed across the subway system, but Ortiz said they were not uniform and differed in size.
According to a news release, each station's map will cover about a 12-block radius, with the station being centered on the map.
The new maps also use the same mapping system as the DOT's WalkNYC signage program, the statement said.
