Nassau Police: Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In Hempstead

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police are investigating after a fatal accident on Long Island early Saturday morning.

According to Nassau County police, two men were walking across Clinton Street at Dartmouth Street in Hempstead at around 1:15 a.m. when they were struck by an orange 2013 Dodge Challenger travelling northbound.

One of the men, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police said the vehicle was impounded as the investigation continues.
