Nassau Police Commissioner Involved In Chain-Reaction Crash That Injured Woman

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The acting police commissioner in Nassau County rear-ended a vehicle that caused a three-car, chain-reaction accident last week, police said.

According to authorities, Commissioner Thomas Krumpter "was following too closely'' when he struck the car in front of him on Elwood Road in East Northport last Wednesday.

That driver, Karen Haar of East Northport, then struck the car in front of her.

Haar complained of neck pain and was treated at a hospital and released. The other driver was not hurt.

Krumpter was not issued any summonses in connection with the crash. Police said they don't typically issue tickets unless they observe an infraction.

Nassau police said Krumpter was not available to comment on Tuesday. They said Krumpter assisted the driver at the scene.
