Nassau County Police Hunt UPS Impersonators Who Tried To Rob Hewlett Home

HEWLETT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Police in Nassau County want your help finding two men they said imitated UPS workers in an attempt to rob a home Tuesday.

The two men rang the doorbell at a Henrietta Place home in Hewlett while carrying boxes and wearing brown jackets, similar to those worn by UPS employees, police said.

The homeowner told them to leave the packages outside, but they said they needed a signature.

When the homeowner opened the door, the two tried to push their way in, police said. When they couldn't get in, they took off.

They were last seen jumping into a 4-door, dark colored car parked in front of Franklin Elementary School. Police believe the men were armed.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will be kept anonymous.
