VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A masked, knife-wielding man is responsible for at least nine commercial robberies over recent months in Nassau County, police say.

The man carries a large kitchen knife, is very aggressive and demands money, according to police.

He has struck at convenience stores and gas stations in Valley Stream, Elmont, Franklin Square and North Woodmere, cops said.

"We must have to be aware of this guy," the owner of a Valley Stream gas station that was robbed told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "He's a very dangerous guy."

There have been no serious injuries in any of the robberies, police said.

Police described the suspect as a black man, 6 feet tall and with a thin build. He's been seen wearing a black jacket, hooded sweatshirt, a ski mask or scarf covering his lower face and white soled sneakers.

He often takes the entire cash drawer from registers and flees on foot, cops said. He, however, was spotted using a white "Hyundai-type vehicle" with yellow New York plates in one incident.

Nassau County police are asking anyone with helpful information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
