Nassau County To Offer Free Car Service On St. Patrick's Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Nassau County wants to make sure everyone has a safe St. Patrick's Day.

Officials announced an initiative offering free cab rides in an effort to stop people from getting behind the wheel after drinking.

On Thursday, All Island Taxi will offer free rides home to those who have a little too much to drink and don't have a designated driver.

"It's about saving lives and keeping intoxicated people off the road and from behind the wheel of a car," All Island spokesman Lawrence Blessinger said. "Our goal is to keep drunk drivers off the road and save lives."

"Safety is first," Milleridge Inn owner Butch Yamali said.
