N.J. Officials Warn Teens Of Sexting Dangers After Video Of Alleged Sex Act Posted Online
NEW JERSEY (CBSNewYork) -- New Jersey officials are warning teenagers about the dangers of sexting after a video purportedly of a sex act was allegedly posted online by a 15-year-old.
As WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported, a 15-year-old Dickinson High School student was accused of posting a video online of what's described as an off-campus sex act with a 13-year-old girl.
Now, Jersey City officials said they want to raise awareness among students about the dangers of sexting.
"Kids don't realize that these acts are permanent," said Union County Assemblyman Jon Bramnik.
Bramnik sponsored a bill, that became law, to keep some youth offenders off the Megan's Law sex offender registry.
"And in that moment, they wish they could take it back. They just wish, wish, wish they could take it back and they can't," he added.
That's why Camden and Gloucester counties' Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt's 3-year-old law calls for kids caught sexting to go through in-depth educational programs.
"Some of that is already being done in our schools, we just need to ramp it up a bit more," she said.
Both Lampitt and Bramnick said parents also need to do more.
