N.J. DHS Employee Accused Of Fraudulently Helping Bring Someone Else Into U.S.

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A U.S. Department of Homeland Security immigration employee was arrested in Hillside, New Jersey Wednesday, on charges that made false statements to bring someone else into the country from his native Ghana.

Samuel Nyanteng, 33, a Ghanaian-born naturalized American, was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with perjury, false swearing, and conspiracy, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's office.

Nyanteng, who has worked for the DHS for the past three years in the Citizenship and Immigration division at the Newark office, submitted fraudulent documents and made false statements to immigration authorities to bring someone else into the country from Ghana, prosecutors said.

Nyanteng was in line for a promotion at the time of his arrest, prosecutors said. He had been employed by the Department of Defense before joining the DHS, prosecutors said.

He was arrested without incident at 6 a.m. Wednesday at his home on Leslie Street in Hillside, by officers from the DHS, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the prosecutor's office.

Nyanteng's bail was set at $30,000, prosecutors said.
