Music Teacher, Former School Owner Admits To Molesting Girl

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The former owner of a chain of New York City children's music schools has admitted to molesting a 9-year-old girl he had been teaching.

Ilya Lehman, 70, pleaded guilty Tuesday to forcible sexual conduct against a child in exchange for a two-year prison sentence and five years of probation.

Lehman had originally faced up to seven years in prison. He was set to be sentenced Feb. 25.

Prosecutors said the girl's mother found Lehman inappropriately touching her daughter during a private lesson at their Upper West Side home. Court records say the girl told her mother that she had repeated inappropriate contact with Lehman.

Lehman had been the owner of The Early Ear, which has two Upper West Side locations and a third on the Upper East Side, according to a New York Daily News report. The chain of music schools has since been sold, the newspaper reported.
