Multiple Injuries Reported In Fire In LeFrak City Development In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- At least two people were injured when an extra-alarm fire broke out in a Queens housing development late Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 11:45 p.m., just 15 minutes before the city rang in the New Year, on the ninth floor of the building at 96-02 57th Ave. in Queens, the FDNY said. The blaze was later raised to a second alarm.

The building is part of the LeFrak City development, a private apartment complex in southern Corona, Queens.

Instagram video from the scene showed flames raging on what appeared to be at least one unit in the building.

Two civilians were confirmed to be injured as of 12:45 a.m. Their condition was unknown.
